As basic science has been constantly developed on information age of the 21th century, the department cultivate researchers who be able to solve a variety of scientific problems. We teach not only pure subjects in mathematics like algebra, analysis, geometry, topology, but also applied areas like computer science, statistics, and numerical analysis.

The department provides a certificate of middle and high school teacher to selected undergraduate students completing all courses in teacher education. Also students can get a job in insurance company, financial company, and private academy after graduation. It is possible for students with a double major to get a job in other fields related with engineering and economy. Moreover, students who want to study advanced courses are able to go graduate school, and get a job in research institute, university, and other companies.

Up to now, the department produced 29 people of Ph.D. and 80 people of Master, including 6 professors, 1 post-doc, 18 instructors (2 tenured and 16 non-tenured), and 4 teachers of middle and high school among Ph.D.


From August 2014 to February 2016, the department obtained the grant of University for Creative Korea I with 300 million won per year (1.5 billion won for 5 years). We educated students with excellent talent in industrial and applied mathematics, so that they can do an important role in the local and global area.

From August 2015 to December 2016, the department obtained the grant of Industrial Mathematics Initiative from National Institute for Mathematical Sciences with 70 million won in total. We educate graduate students to study applied mathematics as well as pure subjects.
